Biography
Zoe Rebecca O'Connor, M.D., is a hematologist and oncologist at Children's Health℠ and a faculty instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern. She specializes in caring for children with cancer and blood disorders, including leukemia, lymphoma, other lymphoproliferative disorders and benign hematology.
The patients and families I get to work with are extremely brave, and I am able to build close bonds with them.
Dr. O’Connor earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern.
“The patients and families I get to work with are extremely brave, and I am able to build close bonds with them. I enjoy the challenges involved in the evolving landscape of cancer treatment,” Dr. O’Connor says.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. O’Connor conducts cancer research in immunotherapy (treatment that uses the body’s own immune system to treat cancer). This research involves how the gut microbiome in children with leukemia influences how they respond to a type of immunotherapy called chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy.
