Biography

Steven Copenhaver, M.D., is a pediatric pulmonologist at Children’s Health℠ and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern. He specializes in treating children with chronic lung conditions such as asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, cystic fibrosis (CF), acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and chronic ventilation.  

He earned his medical degree at Texas A&M University College of Medicine (1989). Dr. Copenhaver completed his residency training in pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center (1990) and his fellowship training in pediatric pulmonology at the National Jewish Center and University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (1996). 

Dr. Copenhaver is part of the Children’s Health Claude Prestidge Cystic Fibrosis Center and the Chronic Pulmonary and Ventilator Program. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the Dallas County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Society. Dr. Copenhaver is also a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He has been nominated as a "Mom-Approved" doctor by Dallas Child Magazine and recognized as a Top Pediatric Specialist by D Magazine.

Dr. Copenhaver and his wife reside in the Dallas - Plano area. They love spending time with each other and their family: three sons, six daughters, eight grandchildren and their dogs. Dr. Copenhaver is also a collector of rare coins and an avid antiquarian. He also enjoys reading history books and classic novels.
