Arthritis means inflammation of the joint and the condition affects nearly 300,000 children in the United States. Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis is one form of autoimmune rheumatic disease, where the immune system triggers inflammation in the joints for no apparent reason. Our team of dedicated and highly trained health care professionals help patients and their families manage these various rheumatic diseases. The staff includes five board-certified pediatric rheumatologists (out of only about 350 in the country). We treat children from birth through age 18, and provide both outpatient and inpatient care.

What is Camp Lupapalooza?
Camp Lupapalooza is a weekend residential camp program to provide a true camp experience for children with Lupus. Camp Lupapalooza is hosted by Camp John Marc, at their state-of-the-art therapeutic camping facility near Meridian, Texas. Doctors, nurses, and other specialists are provided by Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Scottish Rite Children’s. The campers will be staying in air-conditioned cabins with trained volunteer cabin counselors. The campgrounds have been designed to be completely accessible with a specially trained staff. Days at camp are filled with swimming, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, arts and crafts, photography, dance, singing, sports and games, and other fun activities. Camp Lupapalooza helps build independence and confidence. It allows these children the opportunity to interact with others with the same medical diagnosis, thus addressing issues of isolation and self-esteem. Camp Lupapalooza offers a nurturing setting for peer interactions, adventure, and new challenges. It will thus hopefully encourage self-responsibility and confidence in their own abilities.
Lupapalooza is held annually in September. For those interested in attending please contact Caroline Moher at 214-456-6282 or
